Steve Dick is the current District Minister/Secretary. He took up the position in the summer of 1996 after serving for the previous eleven years as minister to the congregation of the Croydon Unitarian & Free Christian Church.

Steve was born in 1952 in the hospital at John Hopkin University in Baltimore, Maryland. Most of his early life was lived in suburban Maryland until coming to Germany in 1979 while serving in the US Military.

He married his Dutch wife Jenneke in a ceremony held at the Congress of the International Association for Religious Freedom (IARF) in July 1981. Upon separation from the military, he moved to the Netherlands until he was accepted for training for the ministry at Harris Manchester College, part of Oxford University in 1982.

During the 1980s, Steve worked with the two Unitarian Universalist congregations in Germany and was employed part-time on the staff of the Secretariat of the IARF. As a New Congregations Organiser he assisted in the creation of Unitarian Universalist congregations in Belgium, France and the Netherlands. This work and liason with members of the Church of the Larger Fellowship living in Europe led to the formation of European Unitarian Universalists (EUU) which he served as Executive Director in its formative years.

Steve and Jenneke now live in Croydon and their family includes one adult daughter, Esther.

His further education includes the Ministry Certificate from Harris Manchester College, diplomas from Goldsmith College and from the Open University. He is currently working on a masters degree at London South Bank University.

Steve’s professional qualifications and memberships include the Certificate in Charity Management from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, the Certificate in Fundraising from the Institute of Fundraising and he is a Full Member of both Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations and the Institute of Fundraising.

In terms of Unitarian activities and commitments, Steve served for a three year term as Secretary of the Ministerial Fellowship and he is currently the Chair of the Board of the Inquirer Publishing Company. He also serves on the General Assembly (GA) Council, the GA Administration Commission, the Executive Committee of the Essex Hall Trustees and the Executive Committee of the British and Foreign Unitarian Association. Steve also serves on a number of other London and South East areas trusts on behalf of the LDPA.
